The story that started Aubrey Chateau.

A founder note on servanthood, lived co-living experience, and why the closed shelter and shuttered nonprofit are the reason this company exists.

Why I'm building Aubrey Chateau — from the inside of a co-living home

I am a US Military Veteran. I have lived in a co-living home during a transitional phase of my own life. I've spent my career in property management coordinating with VA HUD-VASH, Public Housing Authorities, and social workers — helping current tenants secure rental and utility assistance. Then the local shelter closed. Then the housing-assistance nonprofit closed. This essay is about what I saw, and the kind of housing partner I knew our community needed next.

What "all utilities included" actually means at Aubrey Chateau

A line-by-line breakdown for residents: electricity, gas, water, sewer, trash, high-speed Wi-Fi, on-site laundry, parking, the yard. What you'd pay separately at a $1,400 studio — and why we bundle it all into one predictable monthly rate.

Mission and math both belong on the page

A reflection on why Aubrey Chateau refuses to choose between dignity-first language and unit economics — and why pretending to be only a charity or only an arbitrage business fails the people who count on us most.

When the shelter closed: a letter to the caseworkers left behind

A direct note to the case managers and housing specialists displaced by the recent shelter and nonprofit closures. What Aubrey Chateau is, what it isn't, and how to send your first referral if you've been carrying that file too long.

How we publish

Honest writing for three audiences who don't read the same way.

A senior comparing a $750 room to a $1,500 studio doesn't need the same essay as a small-portfolio landlord weighing a 2–3 year master lease, and neither of them needs what a HUD-VASH coordinator needs at 4:45 p.m. on a Friday. We write to each audience plainly, in the voice we use everywhere else on this site — warm, professional, hopeful, and grounded.

Every post is tagged by audience and track. Use the filters to read only what's for you, or subscribe below and pick the segments that matter.
